A salon series, entitled Επουρανιος, got a slow start this year to an extremely exclusive crowd who came to hang at my Ten Eyck practice space. Also played a handful of shows with Kayo Dot and Stern, including several dates during Toby Driver’s week-long residence at The Stone in August of that year.
The rest of 2014
At this point, I stopped archiving past performances. I was fortunate to play a festival in Monterrey, Mexico with Kayo Dot in March of 2014. Kayo Dot also recorded Coffins on Io around that same time. Stern started working on Bone Turquoise that year, recording the record in June, and played a few shows surrounding that. Tartar Lamb 3 had it’s first and so-far only show at The Stone in November, and Hazel-Rah did nothing. I played every Sunday evening at Times of Refreshing Christian Center, both trumpet and synth bass.

Krystal Grant will be presenting a world premier of her composition P+P2.
P+P2 is a set of pieces for live piano plus processed poetry. These works combine traditional and atypical piano textures with samples of poetry written and spoken by the composer. The piano’s timbral variety within limited harmonic realms is complemented by fixed audio explorations of the rhythmic and phonemic content of words.

The music of Stern is dense and dramatic, occupying its own late-night vacuum – a haze of brooding, Shostakovian synth and angular guitar work, laced with trumpet, industrial noise and sweeping male vocals. Previously a solo artist, Stern is now expanding to band form.
